Pros and cons of Jass app for iPhone and iPad

Jass app good for

I learned how to Jass on a visit to Austria, years ago. Then discovered it was the fore-father of a game we always played in the States, called Euchre. I have since been spreading the word and teaching everyone I know about this challenging, complex, yet deeply satisfying game. Being away from Europe most of the time, I have craved such an app for my iphone. At last here is one. And its fantastic! Exquisitely designed and well thought-out, given the many afore-mentioned complexities. My only complaint would be one that ultimately cant be remedied until the Austrians make a contribution; that there would be a version with the terminology and cards I learned with-- Laub, Schell, Goss, Bock, usw... And of course, some of the drama that one always encounters in a real game-- the congratulations and dissapointments for Stich, Match, Gegenmatch and the hub-bub associted with such declarations-- is missing. But, hey, I understand! This game is a serious accomplishment given how incredibly varied it is, in real life, from country to country, region to region, dorf to dorf. Well-done!
My grandfather is from Swiss. He show me how to play. Please make an online mode.
I could not play online yet though, no luck with account activation. It should be possible to have the activation e-mail re-sent, but I have not found a way to. UI improvement: when its our turn to choose the trump suit, our cards could be more visible, like full screen, not grayed out at the bottom of the screen.
Great game! Well worth it since I dont have players nearby. It also lets my husband learn the game without me. Agree with the previous post about needing more variants. I find the slalom (alternating oben abe & unden ufe) and the half/half (4 of oa or uu followed by 5 of the other) particularly challenging.
V1 worked well. V2 crashes randomly, most often when I choose trump playing Shieber Chicane 2500. Bummer! Please fix the bugs! Love the new addition of Swiss German. Update: consistently crashes with iPhone 4.... Bummer again.
Crashed several times in a row by rebooting fixed the problem

Some bad moments

I like this game but when you try to play with online players, it always fails to get connected ! So annoying ! It only worked once
Unfortunately the graphics are of poor quality. The horizontal only layout does live up to I-Phone possibilities of turning the screen. The general overview is not well thought about. You are better off with a cost free Jass software, e.g. Samschtig Jass.
Whoever wrote this program should first learn how to play Jass. There are too many bad plays to start mentioning them. I played about 50 games and finally decided to write this review. I gave it a chance. There are not enough settings to customize the game, e.g. weisen the 6, 7, 8 when playing undenufe. A total waste of $ 3.99.
I have played over a hundred games. I feel the programming gives too many points for card combinations in a hand at the start resulting in too much luck for points in the hand youre dealt as opposed to earning them in actual play. In the real world one never gets this kind of luck with card combinations. Poker has never had this many four of a kinds!
Not yet, but the promise is there. Id like to see more of the Jass variants added to the adaption of the game.
